Rezin P. Bowie was considered the originator of bowie knives. Then later made famous by brother James Bowie during a brawl on the banks of the Mississippi River. Bowie knives soon became a common weapon and tool of the American West frontiersman. Bowie knife blade lengths ranged from nine to eighteen inches, handles were mostly horn.
