Knives by Colonel Rex Applegate
Knives designed by Colonel Rex Applegate.
Colonel Rex Applegate earned a business degree in 1940 from the University of Oregon and went on to take a commission in the US Army as a second lieutenant. Applegate developed armed and unarmed close quarter combat courses for the US Army. He learned all he could from William E. Fairbairn. At one point during the war, he even served as the personal bodyguard to President Franklin D Roosevelt. In the 1980's, Applegate released a knife called the Applegate-Fairbairn fighting knife, which was a collaborative effort by Applegate and Fairbairn during World War II. Boker Knives offers several versions of this knife, and Gerber produced a line of folding knives by Applegate and Bill Harsey, Jr. based on the Applegate-Fairbairn knife.
